COLLEGE STATION, TX — The Texas Department of Transportation has awarded the College Station Police Department a $40,000 traffic safety grant.

The police department will participate in a year-long Selective Traffic Enforcement Program (STEP) to improve traffic safety in College Station.

The grant will be used to "increase effective enforcement of traffic safety-related laws in order to reduce crashes, fatalities and injuries."

TxDOT rewards STEP grants to reimburse local law enforcement agencies for overtime activities needed to improve traffic safety.

The program began on October 1 and runs through September 21, 2021.
