BRYAN, TX — Some riders who once found Lyft services essential are also seeing a decrease in availability.

”I feel like I’ve seen a decrease, I feel like I haven't seen the little Uber and Lyft lights behind the dash, I haven't seen them as much as I feel like I used to see them,” said Brianna Sanchez, a resident of Bryan.

Riders like Alfonso Martinez feel safe taking rides because they're easily able to get from point A to point B.

”They set up like rules that you have to wear a mask and people will be kind enough to lend over hand sanitizer and stuff so it’s usually pretty safe in the vehicle,” said Alfonso Martinez, student at Blinn College.

Safety and convenience from the app is allowing people to not only find nearby drivers but also allows passengers like Rachel Bradford a way to help people working in the community where she lives.

"I think that they are people and citizens of Bryan Texas and we should feel safe while using their services as well,” said Rachel Bradford, of Bryan.

Encouraging more riders to take a ride has never been more popular because through the app, people are learning of new perks.

”I think there's more discounts and you can save more money,” said Alfonso Martinez.

Besides those discounts, Lyft is also providing peace of mind as people are navigating through these times of COVID.

In a statement released by the company, they say:
“It is clear that Lyft helps connect individuals with essential needs and services. We are committed to ensuring Lyft is available for those who need it, and that all drivers and riders feel safe and comfortable on the road.” said Lyft Spokesperson.

Ultimately, making sure all riders are feeling comfortable and safe is of the utmost importance.

Drivers also have other important duties that allow them to earn extra money.

Through the app, since early march, lyft launched an essential delivery service allowing drivers to drop off goods such as medical supplies, groceries, and hygiene products.

The CDC is recommending drivers use a partition or form of separation between the driver and rider in vehicles. Lyft has begun providing selected drivers with a partition to be installed.
