A Texas lawmaker has proposed legislation to make tacos the official state food of Texas.

"From El Paso to Texarkana, from Texline to Brownsville, from the Rio Grande to the Red River, Texans consume a lot of tacos," House Concurrent Resolution 57 reads. "One thing Texans can agree on is that, despite the availability of tacos in the other 49 states, the tastiest tacos can be found in the great State of Texas."

The resolution was introduced by State Rep. Gina Hinojosa, D-Austin, a city nationally known for its tacos.

Chili con carne was named the official State Dish of Texas during the state's 65th Legislature in 1977, State Symbols USA said. But HCR 57 is not proposing to replace chili, but create another state food designation for tacos.

In Texas, many different types of food have official state recognition. Tortilla chips and salsa are the official state snack, the Texas red grapefruit is the state's official fruit, the jalapeño is the state's official pepper, and the list goes on.
