MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) – A Tennessee woman is accused of stabbing her husband to death after he asked for a divorce.
Police said David Perkins was found lying dead from a stab wound in the front of the house he shared with his wife, Teresa Post.
The couple married in November of 2018.
The owner of their home who also lives in the house, Keith Corliss, said they had been arguing in the bedroom. He said he heard Perkins say he wanted a divorce.
"He walked out the door with his tool bag and about three minutes later knocked on the door and said Teresa we need to stop,” Corliss said. “He walked down that step down to the sidewalk and he just fell over. Teresa said call 911."
Corliss said he did but couldn't believe what he was seeing. He said he didn’t even realize Perkins had been stabbed until the ambulance arrived.
The victim’s cousin, Lisa Hopper, said she is shocked.
"I don't understand. He, you know, he thought he'd found the love of his life and now this has happened," Hopper said.
The couple worked at a nearby church, Gateway Christian.
He was the long-time caretaker at the church, and Teresa worked as a kind of teacher's assistant.
Hopper said that the coupled argued from time to time, but nothing that would lead her to think this could ever happen.
"They would visit me and they're all lovey dovey kissy and I don't know what happened," Hopper said.
Teresa Post also had legal troubles.
Last April she was charged with theft of property and abuse and neglect involving a man. Hopper said Perkins bailed her out.
A police affidavit indicates she was the man's caregiver but took money from his account while he was in the hospital.
Post admitted to the stabbing. She is in being held on $200,000 bond.
