Students in Belton came together Friday for a UIL academic competition.
By Saturday afternoon, 300 students at North Belton Middle School would have participated in around 20 UIL academic events.
"Lake Belton and South Belton are coming to compete with North Belton. We're all competing for various events," said Shray Gupta, a North Belton Middle School student.
Academic events include oral reading, math, science, spelling and more.
"So it's really a way to enhance the curriculum that they're learning in their classes, because it goes over subject area, and then they also work on enhancing skills that they're going to need across all the disciplines," said Christina Flores, Advanced Academic Coordinator
Friday marked day one of the competitions, which will end Saturday around 2 p.m.
