A hedge fund billionaire has just set a record for spending the highest amount ever on a home in the United States — and it's an apartment.
The apartment in Central Park went for $238 million, which is more than double the previous record price paid for a residence in New York City, The New York Times reports.
The previous record was a sale of $100.7 million in 2014, which was for an East Hampton home, the NYT says.
The announcement of the purchase and closure for the Central Park apartment was made by the buyer's spokesperson, Kenneth Griffin. The buyer was not identified.
The unit is a 24,000-square foot combination of two apartments built by Vornado Trust Realty and designed by the firm of Robert A.M. Stern. It is still under construction, the NYT reports.
