Hundreds of new books at the East Waco Library are waiting to be cracked open.

The temporary collection is on loan from the Art Center of Waco.

There are about 800 books featuring a variety of artists and topics for people of all ages.

Jessica Emmett is the community services librarian for Waco-McLennan County Library. She said they should have the collection for about six months as the Art Center of Waco settles into its new location.

"This seemed like such a great fit because we're book people and they had books and so we kind of took them off their hands and gave them a home for a little while," Emmett said. "We have students who come here who are excited about looking at the visuals in the books and it's great that we're able to provide that to the community."

Emmett said these are reference books. While they can't be checked out, you can use them inside the library for as long as you'd like.

The collection itself is made up books donated to the Art Center of Waco.

The Art Center of Waco also works with the East Waco Library to provide a Cookies and Coloring event. Children in elementary school are invited to come learn about an artist while they color and enjoy a snack.

The next Cookies and Coloring event will be on Feb. 15 from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m.
