The Killeen Chamber of Commerce Public Policy Council hosted a luncheon addressing the state of Killeen and the Central Texas region as a whole on Wednesday.

The luncheon featured speeches from Bell County Judge David Blackburn and Killeen Mayor Jose Segarra.

Segarra painted a financial picture of the city, and he was also happy to share public safety has improved across Killeen.

"Everything is down straight across the board. When you look at our crime rate the percentage they're down about 27 percent. Murder rate 71 percent, robberies 55 percent, burglaries 26 percent, vehicles 60. Everything is pretty much down," said Segarra.

While Judge Blackburn added that Central Texas overall is going through a state of transition and change.

He said one of those changes is the growing population.

"Money is going to continue to be an issue as our population continues to grow where we don't get maybe assistance like years and years ago we did from federal or state entities," said Blackburn.

During the luncheon, the two emphasized growth for Central Texas.
