A Central Texas community comes to the aid of a 6-year-old boy fell into a fire pit.
According to a family friend, Julius Castruita was playing in his yard when he fell into a burning barbecue pit in early December. Castruita sustained burns on 20 percent of his body and it could take up to a year for him to recover.
As the oldest of two sons to a single father, their hometown saw the need to step in to help the family make ends meet.
The city of Lampasas came together, raising over $1,900 to contribute to Castruita's medical bills at a benefit held at the 281 Cafe and Dance Hall in Julius' honor.
Food and music were on a donation basis and the community also held a live auction, raising funds for the family.
