The City of Temple is hoping to get the new year started off on the right foot by encouraging the community to walk.

As a part of the Live Well Initiative, the Temple Convention and Visitors Bureau is challenging the entire Temple community to walk one million steps during the month of January with HealthCode’s free iResolve Activity Challenge.

Participants can enter their steps online or link their Fitbit or another fitness tracker to automatically log their activities.

"So this is not just limited to Texas. It's a national kind of competition. Last year Temple placed six overall in all the cities, so hopefully, we can beat that this year, and get even more steps," said Sennett Farias, Temple Convention and Visitors Bureau event coordinator.

City staff also encouraged people to take part in the Arches Annual Resolution 5K and 10K on Jan.12, and those steps will go toward that big million.
