Brookshire Grocery Company completed its annual Spirit of Christmas Food Drive by providing nearly a half-million pounds of food to more than 18,000 families in about 150 communities served by Brookshire stores.

The 37th annual food drive was conducted from Oct. 31 through Dec. 20. Non-perishable food items were collected and donated to service organizations for donations.

The company sold about 55,000 pre-assembled grab bags of food items for donation and raised close to $60,000 in monetary donations. The funds were used to purchase additional food items for the drive.

"We are proud to host the Spirit of Christmas Food Drive and to have assisted 18,000 households," said Brad Brookshire, Chairman and CEO for Brookshire Grocery Company. "Hunger relief is a cause we work to support in our communities all year long, but it is especially meaningful to help individuals in need during the holiday season. We are very thankful for the generous support of our customers and local service organizations to make this possible."

The grocer has stores in Texas, Louisiana and Arkansas.
