City of Temple offering Christmas tree recycling

The City of Temple is asking residents to recycle their live Christmas trees to keep them out of the landfill.

Residents may bring their undecorated, live trees to either of the city's recycling centers and dispose of them free of charge.

A sign to mark the spot for trees will be placed at each of the City of Temple’s recycling centers beginning Dec. 26.

The recycling centers are located at 3015 Bullseye Lane and 602 Jack Baskin Drive.

"It grows every year. Last year, we had three 20-yard containers full, so maybe the equivalent of 100, 150 trees," said Lisa Sebek, the Recycling Manager for the City of Temple.

If you would like to have your tree chipped into mulch, Sebek said you may bring it to 602 Jack Baskin Drive on Jan. 12 from 9 a.m. to noon.

Your tree will be chipped for you to take back home to your landscape or you may donate it to the City of Temple’s Parks.

The first 25 people at each location will receive a free reusable shopping bag. In addition, your tree may be placed at your front curb on your brush collection day for curbside collection.

The tree will then be composted with other brush and tree trimmings.
