HAYTI, MO (KAIT) - A 28-year-old Missouri woman faces a felony charge of kidnapping after police say she took an infant she was babysitting.

The alleged abduction happened around 10 p.m. Dec. 19 from a home in the 1100-block of North Oates in Hayti.

The suspect, who has not been named pending the filing of formal charges, reportedly took the 7-month-old infant out of the state without the mother’s consent.

The family reported they had not seen the baby nor heard from the alleged abductor for 6 hours.

Hayti police and deputies with the Pemiscot County Sheriff’s Office located the woman and the infant early on the morning of Dec. 20, according to a news release from Chief Paul Sheckell.

The woman is being held in the Pemiscot County Justice Center awaiting formal charges.
