Community members gathered to celebrate the third annual Christmas Feast in East Waco.
The event aims to provide a free meal to those in need.
"I want people to understand Waco is a caring community and we care about all of our citizens," Feast in the East Organizer Rocky Miller said.
This year donations totaling $15,000 from community members and sponsors made this event possible. More than 170 volunteers also participate in the event.
"We understand that during this time, there are a lot of people in need who don't get the chance to share bountiful gifts and meals that many people are blessed to do. We wanted to put on an event that welcomed everyone into a home cooked meal provided with love," Miller said.
Janie Aleman had fun attended the celebration for the first time.
"I'm enjoying myself very much seeing some old friends," Aleman said. "I think it's great because it gets people together sharing and helping each other."
During the event, people also received winter clothing, baby items and school supplies.
This year, organizers expected to feed 1,500 people, which is twice the number of folks they gave meals to when the event started three years ago.
