One of the only family owned and operated funeral homes in Waco is asking people to turn in their worn, tattered or torn retired American flags.

Lake Shore Funeral Home and Crematory will collect the unserviceable American flags for proper disposal and will use its facilities to provide a respectful retirement tribute.

“If a family wishes, we will use one of the aged retired flags collected to be cremated alongside the veteran. This program allows us to not only dispose of the American Flag in the proper way, but to also honor our veterans. I think of it as the U.S. Flag’s last duty to pay honor to a deserving veteran," said Brent H. Shehorn, Owner and Director In Charge at Lake Shore Funeral Home & Crematory.

The funeral home is starting the campaign effective immediately. Lake Shore has placed area drop boxes around Waco, including its location, 5201 Steinbeck Bend, where well-loved American Flags can be dropped off during business hours and to be retired and disposed of properly with dignity.
