Temple ISD was recently selected to receive a $150,000 planning grant.

That grant will be used for a Math Innovation Zone program.

The Texas Education Agency initiative is aimed at improving academic outcomes in math for students in pre-kindergarten through eighth grade.

"It's focus is really on preparing students in the area of math. For that Algebra I readiness. Algebra I is the end of, is the final state testing," said Lisa Adams, Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum and instruction.

Temple ISD is one of up to 14 Texas school districts and open-enrollment charter schools selected to receive Math Innovation Zone funding from the Texas Education Agency.

The district has selected five campuses to apply for the program, and the initiative will begin in August 2019 with kindergarten, third-grade and sixth-grade pilots with the goal of becoming a mature, K-8 program in three years.
