A Montague man received an award from the Texas Department of Public Safety for life-saving actions following a crash.

Brian Young heard a two-vehicle crash near his home on State Highway 59 in Montague County on Feb. 26, 2017. He ran to the scene to find one vehicle’s engine compartment on fire. The injured driver was stuck inside.

Young pried the driver side down and unbuckled the seat belt. Meanwhile, the cabin filled with smoke. With no time to spare, Young pulled the driver to safety. Moments later the flames erupted inside the vehicle.

“Mr. Young’s heroic efforts helped save the life of the injured crash victim,” said DPS Regional Director Gary Albus. “Texas is forever grateful for your bravery and service to this great State.”
