The season for giving is here and it's something a group of people in Lampasas are taking to heart.
For the first time, Lampasas County now has a soup kitchen. This dream is one that owner, Jolene McCord has had for years and when she opened a church earlier this year she said all the ingredients came together.
"We knew we wanted to do something for the entire county and not just our own church body and so we started talking about since the mission shared a parking lot that we could possibly have a soup kitchen," McCord said.
As of November, the dream came to reality with Heart of the Forgiveness soup kitchen opening two days a week.
The kitchen is something Jean Morgan, who frequents the soup kitchen said she is so grateful for.
"I would be starving, me and my fiancé. You know they only give us $42 for food stamps," Morgan said.
Morgan suffered a debilitating brain injury in 1989. The injury has left her unable to work since then, relying only on disability income to feed herself.
"A lot of the times, I don't have food and they have given me food and they have given me H-E-B cards to go buy groceries and they are good people," Morgan said.
The volunteers at the soup kitchen add, they all share one mission, to give people who are down on their luck a new beginning.
"Our sign out here on our awning says 'where we keep no record of your wrongs,' we don't want them to come in here with any shame or guilt of where they have been in the past," McCord said.
The soup kitchen is open on Monday's from 4 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. and on Thursday's from noon until 2 p.m.
The kitchen is also asking for donations, including produce, candy bars, sodas and fresh meat.
If you would like to help, donations can be dropped off during soup kitchen hours at the Heart of Forgiveness Ministry which is located next to the Lampasas Mission at 908 E. 4th St. Lampasas, Texas.
McCord adds, they will also have a meal on Christmas Day from noon to 5 p.m.
