Waco Habitat for Humanity held a home dedication for a Waco family of three Tuesday evening.
The Zuniga family had been living in a one-bedroom apartment. The family applied for a home through the organization in May and in June, they would be eligible for the house to be built.
While in the habitat program, the family had to complete 300 hours of “sweat equity,” meaning that habitat homeowners build equity into their homes by education and helping build other homes as well as their own.
Habitat for Humanity encourages the value of having a place for families to grow.
"People are healthier when they live in a home. So we see homeownership as an opportunity to pour into a family so they can do better across a lifetime with their families," said Brenda Shuttlesworth, Executive Director of Habitat for Humanity.
The opportunity for families and others to apply for a home is always open.
Habitat for Humanity accepts applications year-round.
