FORT STOCKTON, TX (KWES) - Fort Stockton Police confirmed a three-year-old boy died just over a week after being hospitalized with injuries related to a child abuse investigation.
Saturday, November 17, Fort Stockton Police Officers were called to Pecos County Memorial Hospital where they discovered a 3-year-old child was brought in unresponsive with what appeared to be serious injuries.
Upon assessment of the child it was discovered the child had several bruises on both his legs, buttocks, chest, shoulders and forehead.
Due to the child’s unresponsive condition the child was air lifted to a children’s hospital in Lubbock.
Upon his arrival at the children’s hospital, the child was was found to have severe brain damage caused by blunt force trama.
During interviews with the police, the child’s mother stated the child was left in good health with Mario Palacios Jr., step-father of the victim, from 11:00 P.M. to 7:00 A.M. which is the time the said offense occurred.
Palacios was arrested Nov., 20 and charged him with Injury to a Child, 1st Degree Felony.
The FSPD Criminal Investigation Team, the 83rd DA’s Office and Texas Rangers are continuing to investigate the circumstances.
According to the Fort Stockton Police, Palacios could be facing additional charges.
