The Department of Public Safety plans to patrol around the clock during an extended holiday weekend.

Troopers will be watching for drunk drivers, speeders, seat belt violators.

During this time last year, they issued more than 73,000 traffic tickets and warnings. They also arrested 324 drunk drivers.

As you travel to visit family, DPS reminds you to not drink and drive, slow down and eliminate distractions.

"We want to make sure everybody is safe and everybody needs where they need to get to in a safe manner. We want to make sure people are following the traffic laws, go the speed limit and not endangering themselves and just actually staying safe," Texas Department of Public Safety Sgt. Ryan Howard said.

Officials also remind you to move over or slow down for emergency vehicles.
