Sgt. Patrick Swanton with the Waco Police Department said their K-9 program has been put on a temporary hold.
This comes one month after an officer shot a K-9 that turned on its handler while they were serving a warrant. The K-9 died at the scene.
According to police, the K-9 turned on his handler for unknown reasons.
Swanton said a company is coming in to re-evaluate the program. They will check in with handlers and the two K-9s.
He added that officers who would like to use K-9 services will have to put in a request with a commander for review. If necessary, the department may receive help from neighboring departments during this time.
Swanton said they do not know how long the temporary hold will last.
