Waco ISD Superintendent Dr. Marcus Nelson is set to announce the new chief of police for the Waco ISD Police Department on Thursday.
According to Waco ISD, Lt. David Williams II will be announced the new chief of police during a school board meeting.
“I’m honored and humbled by the opportunity to continue leading the men and women of this department. Their hard work, dedication and encouragement motivate me each and every day,” Williams said. “For us, building rapport with the students of Waco ISD through daily, positive interactions is what it’s all about. It gives us the chance to reach the people we’re supposed to reach.”
Williams grew up in Central Texas and graduated from the police academy in 2003. He was with the Lacy Lakeview Police Department for six years and had nearly nine years during two stints with the Waco Police Department.
Nelson said he is proud to have a positive role model for the students.
“It’s important to me that Chief Williams already knows our schools, our staff, our campuses and our community. Over the past nine months, he has proven he’s up to the task before him, and this should be a seamless transition for the other officers in our police department and for our principals, teachers and students,” Nelson said.
