UNION COUNTY, NC (WBTV) - A decomposed body found in a Union County soybean field was identified Tuesday as 33-year-old Carl Dewayne Melton, who was reported missing last month.

A farmer found Melton’s body Monday afternoon in a soybean field located off of McManus Road near Latham Road by Monroe. Deputies say the Medical Examiner’s Office used medical records to determine the body belonged to Melton.

Melton, also known as “Snoopy,” was last seen on August 10, according to detectives, but was reported missing September 3.

The Medical Examiner is working to determine a cause of death.
