The largest student-run game competition, Chillennium, kicks off on Oct. 10.
Students will compete for 48 hours straight at Texas A&M while they plan, design and develop video games from scratch.
Video game usage has increased over the years but not just is it used for play. Video games have also been involved in learning and competition.
Colleges and universities are offering several degree programs in the video game field. Classes are also using video games to boost student engagement.
