MAILI (HawaiiNewsNow) - Police are investigating a hit-and-run crash early Tuesday on Farrington Highway that left a 37-year-old pedestrian dead.
Police said the victim was struck by a white pickup truck about 3:50 a.m. as he crossed the highway in Maili, likely in a marked crosswalk.
He was then struck by two other vehicles, one traveling eastbound and the other traveling westbound.
The drivers of those vehicles did stop to render aid.
The man was taken to a hospital in critical condition, where he later died, police said.
The crash adds to a deadly spate on Oahu roads.
Police said the pedestrian is the 53rd traffic fatality on Oahu so far this year, compared to 35 at the same time last year.
It’s unknown if speed or alcohol were factors in the crash, which forced an hours-long closure of Farrington Highway near Linakola Street.
Police are asking for the public’s help in locating the white pick-up truck that fled the scene.
