There's still plenty of work to be done before the upcoming election in November.

On Tuesday, the McLennan County Democratic Party hosted poll watcher training sessions where people learned the do's and don'ts of election law.

These poll watchers will be assigned to 30 different polling places throughout the county.

Mary Duty, chairwoman for the McLennan County Democratic Party, said they will be responsible for watching for violations and looking for people who are trying to intimidate or sway other voters.

"When I took over the job four years ago, I didn't realize how uncomfortable it can be at the polling place," Duty said. "This goes both directions, Democrats can make fun of Republicans, Republicans can make fun of Democrats, that's no longer legal."

Both the Republican Party and Democratic Party would like to have around 60 volunteers each to cover all the poll locations.

Training sessions at the Republican Party of McLennan County will start on Thursday at 5:30 p.m and continue throughout the month.

For additional training dates, you can call the McLennan County Democratic Party at 254-301-7648 and the Republican Party of McLennan County at 254- 772-6955.
