Corsicana ISD is welcoming its first ever narcotics K9.

These dogs cost anywhere from $15,000 to $35,000, but the district didn't have to pay a dime thanks to an organization called K9s4Kids and a generous donation from Discount Tire's regional Driven to Care program.

Halle Tiger has been patrolling Corsicana High School since Aug. 14. She and her handler, Ofc. Adam Richter, keep an eye on more than 6,000 students and around 900 employees across the district's nine campuses.

"She's trained in the detection of cocaine, meth, marijuana, MDMA  and heroin," Richter said.

Richter trained with Halle for countless hours over the summer at Pacesetter K9 in Liberty Hill.

Halle came all the way from Poland. Richter uses Czech commands to communicate with her.

"We do everything from hall duty to lunch duty," Richter said. "Upon request from one of our administrators, we'll do classroom searches."

During a classroom search, every student is removed from the room before Halle can survey the area.

Kenya Landers is the assistant principal for Corsicana High School. She said it's comforting to see Halle roaming around the school.

"We just love having her here," Landers said. "She really contributes to our campus safety, which is the most important thing for us right now."

Like any dog, Halle loves to play. Whenever she gets a break, Richter will pull out her favorite toy.

"Very playful," Richter said. "Lot's of fun, lot's of energy, she's a doll."

Halle was named in memory of Bruce Hale, the founder of Discount Tire.
