Three Elm Mott Volunteer firefighters will participate in an event that pays tribute to first responders who died as a result of the 9/11 attacks on Sept. 11, 2001.

On Tuesday, fire Chief Casey Perry and Lt. Kevin Cole will be two of the firefighters climbing the Tower of the Americas in San Antonio to honor the 343 firefighters, 70 law enforcement officers and nine EMS personnel who lost their lives on ground zero.

Perry and Cole plan to climb the 65 stories twice while wearing their gear during the San Antonio 110 9/11 Memorial Climb. The climb exceeds the 110 floors of the World Trade Center.

"The fire service has always been and will always be a close-knit brotherhood. We take care of our own. We remember our fallen. This is a way to ensure that those who gave their lives for our greater cause so that others may live, they don't they're not forgotten," Perry said.

This is the second year that firefighters from Elm Mott have participated in the remembrance event.
