Starting at 6 a.m. Tuesday morning, 60 bus drivers left the barn to pick up thousands of Waco ISD students.
More than 15,000 students attend schools within the district and 2,700 rely on the bus to get them to school safely.
The drivers are required to complete a pre-trip checklist that consists of checking their brakes, tires, mirrors and anything else that may interrupt their drive.
Donna Smith, who trains the drivers, said they're just as excited for the first day as the students are.
"I'm happy that school is starting," Smith said. "I've been working all summer but it's so much different without the kids here and now that the kids are here we want to make sure we get them to school on time, safely and ready to go. Every day, all day."
Smith also wants to remind other drivers to keep an eye out for bus stops and students who are getting on and off the bus.
