A Dallas officer has died after being hit by an SUV Saturday morning.
Dallas police said that an officer died after being involved in a traffic accident on I-20.
The department said that Sr. Corporal Earl Jamie Givens, 55, was blocking oncoming traffic for a motorcade for a fallen police officer. Givens was blocking the entrance ramp to I-20 at Bonnie View Road when he was struck by an SUV traveling at a high rate of speed.
Givens was taken to Baylor University Medical Center where he later died. Givens was a 32 year veteran of the department.
The driver of the SUV was arrested for suspicion of driving while intoxicated.
Givens was accompanying the funeral escort of Officer Tyrone Andrews, who was from the Shreveport-area. Andrews had died of cancer.
