McGregor police say about 10 to 15 people were evacuated after an employee of a contracting company with Atmos Energy accidentally hit and ruptured a 6-inch gas main.

The Fire Department and Police Department blocked off the streets between Bluebonnet Parkway, Johnson Drive and Ninth Street around 10:15 a.m.

About half a block of Tenth Street, about 10 to 15 people, were evacuated as a precautionary measure, Stephen Leonard with the McGregor Police Department said.

Around 11 a.m. Atmos Energy was able to turn off the gas, stopping any more hazards to the residents in McGregor.

Leonard said Atmos will be working to fix the leak and get the gas turned back on, but there is not an estimated time of then that will be completed.
