Killeen police are searching for a man who led them on a chase on Thursday around 11:30 a.m.

Police stopped on the side of State Highway 195 near Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery when they saw a man by an abandoned car. They said the man seemed suspicious because three tires of the car had been taken off.

When officers pulled over to investigate, the man drove off in a Ford Taurus, starting a pursuit.

The man drove onto FM 2484 to the 19400 block of the road where agencies surrounded him on a property. He drove onto his parents' property and got out of the car in a wooded area.

Police said they found his car, but the driver was gone. In the back seat were the three tires from the abandoned car. The tires have returned to the owner. The abandoned car had broken down and been left on the side of the road for 48 hours before the incident.

K9 units were brought out to search for the man. The K-9 got a scent, but lost it.

Police said they know the suspect's identity, and will be obtaining a warrant for his arrest.

While the man was driving away from police, he sped by a Bell County Sheriff's Deputy. The deputy saw a woman, but she was not found and her identity is not known.
