Police have identified a woman taken to the hospital after being rescued from a car that was submerged in the Brazos River.
The Waco Fire Department said the car was seen upside down in the river around 11 p.m. on Wednesday night. The car drove off University Parks Drive into the river between the Vietnam War Memorial and Cameron Park.
Waco police said that Jaqueline Sanchez, 20, had been "driving recklessly at a high rate of speed" when she hit a curb and lost control of her car.
Sanchez was pulled out of the river and given CPR before being taken to Hillcrest Hospital. She is currently in critical condition.
Police believe that alcohol may have played a factor in the crash.
Waco Fire said the car has been removed from the river. They do not believe anyone else was in the car.
The investigation is ongoing.
