Dearinge shot Brown in November 2016 while attempting to shoot the child's mother during a heated argument.

Natasha Jeter, Jayden's mother and Dearinge's aunt, began arguing while Dearinge was taking care of Jayden and his older sister. When she turned away she heard the gunshot and the found that 2-year-old Jayden, who was standing outside, had been shot.

Jeter rushed her son to Metroplex Hospital. He was then airlifted to McLane Children's Hospital where he later died from his injuries.

Dearinge was arrested and charged with murder in November 2016. She pleaded guilty to felony murder on Tuesday and was sentenced to 18 years in prison.
