Killeen ISD hosted a joint workshop meeting with the Killeen City Council to discuss plans on school improvements and construction of new schools on Thursday.

As the projects move forward, the district plans to work with the city to ensure proper infrastructure and procedures are in place. Also, to ensure the safety of the students before the school year begins.

Killeen ISD said that holding joint meetings with the city doesn't happen as often as it should, but it is important for future success.

"What we agreed to tonight, in principle, is getting together twice a year," Terry Abbott, Killeen ISD Chief Communication Officer said. "Two joint meetings a year to update each other on various things we're working on that impact each other and to keep those lines of communication open. It can only help both of us to do that."

Killeen ISD plans to work on over $300 million worth of work immediately, beginning with safety upgrades on campuses such as fencing and automatic door locks.
