An organization that helps homeless Waco ISD students has just received a free car.

Extraco Banks donated a 2010 Chevy HHR to The Cove in Waco on Wednesday.

The Cove is a teen nurturing center designed to provide a safe space for students experiencing homelessness to access the resources they need to thrive.

The Cove Executive Director Kelly Atkinson said they serve around 75 students each year. She said this car will help them get students to places like the DMV to get their driver's license or to job interviews.

"We'll also be able to use it with our social work interns and our staff to do home visits and visit our students at school and just continue to serve our students around Waco," Atkinson said.

Extraco Banks have been retiring company cars over the years and donating them to local organizations like Habitat for Humanity and Neighbor Works.

They plan on donating another car next week to a group in Temple.
