Highlanders finish in fifth place at NJCAA District 2 Championship
The McLennan Highlanders shot 288-305-305 – 898 to finish in fifth place at the NJCAA District 2 Championship at the par-72, 7,349-yard The Rawls Course in Lubbock.

Odessa finished in first place with 290-284-296 – 870, followed by Midland in second with 286-294-296 – 876 and Western Texas in third with 293-298-295 – 886.

Matt Lorentzen shot 74-72-26 – 222 to lead the Highlanders and finish tied for 10th place individually. Florian Moosneier of Odessa claimed the individual title with 67-71-74 – 212.

Other McLennan scores: medalist Brayden Marnell, tied for 10th, 79-75-68 – 222; Micah Goulas, tied for 17th, 70-78-78 – 226; Alex Isakson, tied for 23rd, 72-77-79 – 228; Parker Scaling, tied for 23rd, 77-79-72 – 228; medalist Trent Leffingwell, tied for 29th, 72-75-83 – 230; and Judd Tilson, tied for 42nd, 72-78-84 – 234.

Other team scores: New Mexico, fourth, 286-295-307 – 888; Tyler, sixth, 301-310-300 – 911; New Mexico Military, seventh, 298-310-310 – 918; Ranger, eighth, 308-307-309 – 924; and Jacksonville, ninth, 315-301-314 – 930.

Scores from this tournament will be combined with the scores from next week’s NJCAA Southwest Championship to determine the four qualifying teams for the national tournament.
