The Central Texas Food Bank has received a $28,632 grant from Caterpillar's philanthropic organization, the Caterpillar Foundation to provide fresh produce to those facing hunger in McLennan County.

“The Central Texas Food Bank is thankful to the Caterpillar Foundation for its ongoing commitment to fighting hunger and supporting families in need in our community,” said Derrick Chubbs, president and CEO of the Central Texas Food Bank. "Because of this grant, we will be able to better serve families and children in need in McLennan County.”

The Central Texas Food Bank said they will be using this grant to help provide fresh produce to residents in McLennan at the hub located at Caritas of Waco.

About 42 million people in the United States struggle with food insecurity every year, including nearly 48,000 McLennan County residents - nearly 17,000 of them are kids 18 and younger according to The Central Texas Food Bank.

The grant is one of many given to Feeding America and its member food banks as part of a national investment to help alleviate hunger across the country.

The donation goal is to help provide the equivalent of 170,428 meals to McLennan County children and families in need.
