Three Baylor women’s tennis players represented the program on the final day of the H-E-B Invitational at Hurd Tennis Center on Sunday afternoon.
Senior Theresa Van Zyl won the main draw singles championship with a three-set, come-from-behind victory over Houston’s Tsveta Dimitrova, 3-6, 6-3, 6-4. Van Zyl faced fellow Lady Bear sophomore Jessica Hinojosa in the semifinals, where she won in three sets, 2-6, 6-4, 6-1, to reach the final. She also challenged Stevie Kennedy (6-0, 6-2) of TCU, Isabel Iglesias from Kentucky, 6-2, 6-2, and Tyler’s Tamara Arnold, 6-2, 6-3, before playing Hinojosa.
Hinojosa advanced to the semifinals, before falling to Van Zyl in a three-set thriller, 3-6, 6-3, 6-4. She previously faced Tyler’s Oceane Garibal, 6-4, 6-3, and Mississippi State’s Magda Adaloglou, 3-6, 6-0, 6-1.
Sophomore Angelina Shakhraichuk competed in the consolation back draw and swept Houston’s Sveva Mazzari in convincing fashion, 6-0, 6-0.
