The Waco ISD Director of Communications has taken a new job.

Bruce Gietzen will become Baylor's Director of Student Publications in the Journalism, Public Relations and New Media Department said Lori Fogleman a spokesperson at Baylor.

“I was an adjunct professor at Baylor for five years, and I really enjoyed being in the classroom. The chance to work with more than two dozen aspiring journalists each year and the wonderful faculty and staff there was too good an opportunity to pass up,” Gietzen said.

“Our department was seeking someone with a strong background in news, particularly broadcast news because that is an area we want to strengthen in student publications,” said Sara Stone, Ph.D., department chair and professor of journalism at Baylor.

“I’m thankful Baylor invited me to come back and be a part of their staff, and I’m also grateful for my year at Waco ISD,” Gietzen said.

Gietzen was an anchor for KXXV for 12 years before becoming the Director of Communications for the Waco Independent School District in May of 2016.

Gietzen took a break from television and worked in sports marketing in Atlanta and Washington, D.C. before a client asked him to be a partner in an event management company in Dallas.

Gietzen has 32 years of experience in the broadcast industry.
