Baylor acrobatics & tumbling senior top/base Kiara Nowlin was named National Collegiate Acrobatics & Tumbling Association (NCATA) Player of the Week, the organization announced Tuesday.
Nowlin earned the honor for the second time this season and fourth time in her career as she was also honored on April 10, 2015, April 12, 2016 and March 14, 2017. Her four career accolades are a program record and her two honors in the same season tie teammate Lauren Sterm (Feb. 24, 2017, March 28, 2017) for the program record. Nowlin gives the Bears their program-record fourth selection this season and eighth all-time, with all eight coming under third-year head coach Felecia Mulkey.
In BU’s win at Azusa Pacific on April 11, Nowlin helped the Bears score a 10.0 in the compulsory toss heat and 9.55 the compulsory tumbling heat. In the acrobatics seven element heat, she helped BU score another 10.0. In the pyramid heat one, she aided the team in posting a 9.90 and helped turn in a 9.55 and 9.60 in the toss synchronized heat and toss heat three, respectively. In the tumbling trio pass, she played a large role in BU’s 9.70 score and notched a 9.90 in the tumbling open pass. In the team event, she helped Baylor post a 100.90.
In 2017 thus far, Nowlin has helped give Baylor eight perfect 10 scores on the season as she has been a part of every 10 heat and garnered four of the perfect scores on her own in individual tumbling heats.
