ASC Men's Golf Championship Preview

One of the most competitive fields in American Southwest Conference men’s golf history will vye for the 2017 Conference title when play begins Tuesday at Comanche Trace in Kerrville, Texas.

Eight teams will compete in the 54-hole tournament played over two days (April 18-19). Teams are scheduled for two rounds on Tuesday (18-18) with a double-tee start off holes No. 1 and No. 10. The first groups begin at 8:00 a.m. with tee times following at nine-minute intervals. Wednesday’s final round (18) will be a shotgun start at 8:00 a.m. The awards presentation follows completion of day two play.

Conditions permitting, live scoring through BirdieFire will be provided for the tournament (link above). Any changes in the tournament schedule as well as photos and updates will be communicated through Conference and team social media channels.

Three teams – UT Tyler, Mary Hardin-Baylor and Concordia Texas – list one-two-three in the NCAA Division III West Region rankings and are all among the Top 15 teams in the Golfstat national Division III rankings. UT Dallas, Hardin Simmons and LeTourneau enter the ASC tournament ranking among the Top 60 Division III teams. Howard Payne and Louisiana College complete the eight-team field.

Concordia Texas is defending ASC champion and is led by last year’s top individual finisher Seger Howell. Mary Hardin-Baylor has won six ASC championships, the most of any team in this year’s tournament with the Cru taking the 2014 and 2015 crowns. Top UMHB player Mats Heien comes into the ASC Championships off a second-place tie at the West Region Invitational (April 3-4). UT Tyler has four tournament wins this season and is led by Brandon Rougeau who has placed among the top 10 in five tournaments.

The winner of the tournament is the American Southwest Conference champion and receives the Conference automatic berth into the NCAA Division Men’s Golf Championship.
