The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor women’s golf team improved by four strokes in the final round but could not move up in the team standings as the Cru finished in third place at the D3 West Region Tuesday in Georgetown. That third place finish comes in UMHB’s final outing before the conference tournament.
UMHB finished with a 335-331=666 total to claim third place. U.T. Tyler won the team championship with a 316-315=631 team score. Schreiner University shot 331-329=660 to finish second, six shots ahead of the Cru. Tournament host Southwestern University finished fourth with a 337-340-677 and Concordia Texas rounded out the top five with a 339-343=682 score. A nine-team field competed in the tournament.
McKenna Ralston was the low individual finisher for UMHB after tying for eighth place with an 84-80=164. Emily Ming shot 85-81=166 for the Cru to tie for 11th place, Tori Gatling tied for 14th place after firing an 84-84=168 and Olivia Robinson (82-90), Aubrey Starnes (86-86) and Cassidy Rawls (81-91) all posted 172’s for UMHB to tie for 21st place. Kaycee Bankert of Schreiner University won individual medalist honors after recording a 76-77=153.
The two-day, 36-hole event was played on a par-72, 5,835-yard layout at Berry Creek Golf Course in Georgetown. The Cru women will return to action with the American Southwest Conference Championship Tournament on April 10th and 11th. That tournament will be played at Oakmont Country Club in Corinth and the ASC champion earns an automatic bid to the NCAA Division III National Championships.
