The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor men's tennis team split the singles matches but it wasn't enough to overcome a deficit after doubles as the Cru was edged by Schreiner 5-4 Friday in Belton. The loss snaps the Cru's four-match winning streak and drops UMHB to 4-3. Schreiner moves to 12-5 with the victory.
Scott Wilding and Brendan Thompson paired for a win at #1 singles for the Cru, but Schreiner took #2 and #3 doubles. Wilding posted a straight set win at #1 singles and Cole Weiss added a straight set win at #3. Brian Martin won a gritty three-set decision at #6 singles, but three-set wins for the Mountaineers at #2 and #4 singles made the difference.
The Cru men will open American Southwest Conference West Division play on Saturday. UMHB will host Sul Ross State University for a 10:00 AM start at the Yvonne Li Tennis Center.
