Baylor acrobatics & tumbling senior top/base Kiara Nowlin was named National Collegiate Acrobatics & Tumbling Association (NCATA) Player of the Week, the organization announced Tuesday.
Nowlin garnered the honor for the first time this season and third time in her career, giving Baylor two honorees this season (Lauren Sturm, Feb. 24). All six weekly accolades in BU history from the NCATA have come under the direction of third-year head coach Felecia Mulkey.
Nowlin scored big for the Bears in a 2-0 week with wins at Glenville State and at Fairmont State. In the compulsory event, she helped the team notch a 9.90 in the toss heat and 8.90 in the tumbling heat vs. GSU and a 9.90 and 9.40 in the same heats vs. FSU. In the acro event, she helped BU post a 9.80 in heat three vs. GSU and a 9.95 vs. FSU. In the pyramid event, she led the Bears to a 9.80 in heat one vs. GSU and a 9.80 vs. FSU. In the toss event, she had a part in the team scoring a 9.40 in heat two and 9.65 in heat three vs. GSU and a 9.50 and 9.60 vs. FSU. In the tumbling event, she aided in BU getting a 9.20 in the triple pass and 10.0 in the aerial pass vs. GSU and a 9.850 and 10.0 vs. FSU. She also helped the Bears score a 102.41 vs. GSU and 100.51 vs. FSU in the team event.
The senior All-American has now posted a 10.0 in the tumbling aerial pass three times this season as she did so twice during the week.
