The 17th-ranked Baylor men’s tennis team will play the first of six-straight matches away from home by taking on No. 40 South Florida Monday at 5 p.m. CT at the IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fla.
The Bears are 11-2 on the season after beating No. 48 UCF, 4-2, on Feb. 27 in Waco. BU is also 4-2 in neutral site matches in 2017.
Baylor has a trio of ranked players on the singles side. Sophomore Juan Benitez is ranked No. 13 in the country and owns a dual-match record of 8-2 in singles play, while senior Max Tchoutakian is ranked No. 39 with a 6-0 dual-match mark and sophomore Johannes Shcretter was new to the latest set of rankings at No. 50, after starting the year at 9-0. The Bears boast one ranked doubles tandem as Will Little and Schretter team together to be No. 53.
USF is 4-4 on the season, after sweeping Michigan State, 7-0, on Saturday. The Bulls are led by Alberto Barroso-Campos, who is at No. 83 in the national singles rankings. He boasts a 6-2 singles record, along with senior Vadym Kalyuzhnyy. Baylor leads the all-time series against USF, 4-0. In the last meeting, BU produced a 4-1 triumph over the Bulls on May 14, 2015, in the NCAA Championships Round of 16 in Waco.
Following the match vs. USF match, Baylor will travel across the country to play UC Santa Barbara Thursday and then at UCLA Saturday.
