A former Temple police officer has been convicted of revealing an ongoing investigation.

According to the Department of Justice, a jury convicted Erick French, 24, of lying to federal authorities about telling details of an ongoing investigation.

The jury found that French, a resident of Copperas Cove, made a false statement to FBI agents in March to hide that he had previously sent a text message that alerted an individual about an ongoing investigation that was being conducted by the Temple Police Department's Special Investigations Unit.

French could face up to five years in federal prison and a fine of $250,000.

French is being held on a $25,000 blond and is scheduled for sentencing in January.
