UMHB Tennis Teams Close Out Play at ASC Invitational

The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor men’s and women’s tennis teams closed out the first tournament of the fall schedule with the final day of play at the American Southwest Conference Invitational Tournament Saturday in Abilene.

In flight one men’s singles, Scott Wilding won the flight with a 6-3, 6-2 win in the championship match. Cole Weiss finished fifth in flight two singles with a 6-2, 6-2 win in his final match. Alex Mackeller won 6-3, 6-1 to claim fifth place in flight three singles. Jace Mahan finished fourth in flight four after falling 6-2, 6-4. Julian Dunmore claimed third place in flight five singles with a 6-4, 6-4 win. Chase Van Cleave defaulted in flight six to finish fourth. Brian Martin added a fourth place finish in flight seven after falling 6-4, 6-0 and Jake Boles took third place in flight eight with a 2-6, 6-4, 10-6 victory.

In men’s doubles, Wilding and Weiss teamed up to take third place, Martin and Mackellar lost two matches in flight two doubles, Dunmore and Mahan finished fifth in flight three doubles and Boles and Van Cleave were forced to default in flight four.

In women’s singles, Ashlee Montgomery finished fifth in flight two singles, Mckinley Dockall finished fifth in flight five singles and Hope Nash claimed fifth place in flight six singles.

Montgomery and Dockall finished fifth in flight one women’s doubles. Nash and Rhiannon Wright won one of three matches in flight two, Haley Hicks and Shannon Kelley also teamed to win one of three matches in flight three doubles.

The UMHB women will return to action with the ITA Southwest Regional Tournament in Abilene September 22-25. The Cru men will play their ITA Southwest Regional in Tyler September 29-October 2.
