Baltimore, Maryland — The Texas Rangers today announced that outfielder Shin-Soo Choo has been activated from the 15-day disabled list.
Choo is in the starting lineup for this evening’s game with the Orioles in Baltimore.
To make room for Choo, lefthanded pitcher Dario Alvarez has been optioned to Triple-A Round Rock.
In addition, catcher Bobby Wilson was claimed on outright waivers by the Tampa Bay Rays.
Choo was placed on the disabled list on July 20 with lower back inflammation, his third DL stint of 2016. He is batting .260 with 7 homers and 17 RBI in 33 games this season.
Alvarez allowed 5 hits and 3 runs/2 earned runs in 1.2 innings over 2 appearances with Texas since he was acquired from Atlanta on July 27. He was 3-1, 3.00 in 16 outings with the Braves.
Wilson, who was designated for assignment by the Rangers on August 1, is batting .241 with 3 homers and 24 RBI in 47 games with Detroit and Texas in 2016.
The Rangers’ major league roster remains at the 40-man limit.
